In this situation the boot.ini has been deleted (because of the quick format as part of the Vista install). I have no problem in putting back the boot.ini. Is replacing the boot.ini all that is required? Specifically, is the old NT loader still around to be called if you make just this BCDEDIT change?

On boot, MBR+LILO grabs things first then VISTA multi-boot for the two Windows. Each O/S is on a separate drive, and you'll have to fix LILO after doing either/both Wins (Boot Mandriva Install CD, press F1 for more options, type "rescue" <Enter>, wait for menu, select restore LILO, reboot. Easy, IMHO .
